That’s right, every third weekend of the month through May (events excluded), we will be having a RENT PARTY. Free tastings all weekend and 20% off any 3-bottle purchase. In trying to be true to the 1920s spirit of the skiffle, we’ll also be spinning all the Jazz and Blues on the turntable that we have.

July 2009 Wine Enthusiast

by Kenny on Jun.09, 2009, under Uncategorized

2008 Banyan Gewurztraminer - 87 BEST BUY
2007 Hobo Zinfandel, Rockpile - 91
Rich and briary, with that exotic, hot summer afternoon fresh berry tang, this Zin delights for its flavors of wild blackberries, currants, cherries, mulberries, chocolate, anise, and pepper. So clean. You can taste the summer sun in every sip. - S.H.
2007 Hobo Zinfandel, Treborce Vineyard, Dry Creek Valley - 90
Higher in alcohol than Hobo’s other ‘07 Zins, the Treborce is also a bit hotter in the mouth. It has a tug of chili pepper heat with the intensely ripe blackberry, cherry, milk chocolate and spice flavors. Needs barbecue and similar rich fare to do its thing. -S.H.
2007 Hobo Zinfandel, Dry Creek Valley - 90
Strikes a nice balance of ripe berry and chocolate flavors, firmed with softly smooth tannins, and a deep earthy-spiciness suggesting sweet tobacco, anise, and sage. Turns lush and intricate toward the finish. This is a really nice Zinfandel. - S.H.
2007 Hobo Zinfandel, Alexander Valley - 89
Soft and gentle, this is a Zin to drink right now for its lush, exotic flavors. It’s dry, with dusty tannins and mouth-filling tastes of ripe crushed blackberries and cherries, baked into a pie and sprinkled with cocoa, cinnamon, nutmeg and black pepper, with a pinch of salt. -S.H.

Dan Berger’s Vintage Experiences 2/26/09

by Kenny on Mar.06, 2009, under Uncategorized

Dan Berger reviewed the 07 Banyan Riesling and 08 Banyan Gewurztraminer in the 2/26/09 edition of Vintage Experiences. Both wines were noted as “Exceptional.”

2007 Banyan Riesling, Santa Lucia Highlands: A dramatic new brand with mineral notes and a complex note of citrus and dried flowers. Dry and aimed at the dinner table.

2008 Banyan Gewurztraminer, Monterey County: Pretty juniper and spice aroma, and a soft entry, but superb acidity to balance 1%  residual sugar and low (12.5%) alcohol. Often seen in Asian restaurants
